Estate Planning
While you are alive and well, you value the fact that you are
able to make your own decisions about your finances,
property, health care, and your family. Should you die or
become incapacitated, you hope others will handle these
matters for you according to your wishes. The best way to
ensure that this will happen is through proper Estate
Planning. Estate Planning involves weighing various personal
and financial decisions and creating legal arrangements to
carry out those decisions.
The term "estate" consists of all the property a person owns
or controls, and all other monies that would be generated on
the person's death, such as through life insurance. Estate
Planning is preparing for the management and distribution of
a person's estate at death through the use of Wills, Trusts,
insurance policies, and other arrangements, balancing the
person’s wishes for distribution and control against the tax
consequences of those actions. Estate Planning also includes
arranging to make sure that someone else can manage your
property, make health care decisions for you, and raise your
children in the event of incapacity.
